‘Excellent’… Paul Robinson says £17m Tottenham player is so good at passing

Paul Robinson has singled out Guglielmo Vicario for praise after an excellent start to life at Tottenham Hotspur for the Italian.

The former Spurs goalkeeper has been speaking on the official Tottenham podcast and was asked about Guglielmo Vicario’s early-season form.

Vicario completed a switch to Tottenham from Empoli for a fee worth around £17 million over the summer.

Many Spurs fans were initially underwhelmed with the move as the club had also been linked with a move for David Raya. But it’s fair to say the signing of Vicario is looking like an astute piece of business from Tottenham at the moment.

The Italian has slotted in seamlessly after a slightly shaky debut at Brentford on the opening day. His reflexes have caught the eye and his performance against Chelsea led to plenty of praise in the media.

And Paul Robinson is the latest to praise the shot-stopper, claiming his distribution is ‘excellent’.

Robinson lauds ‘excellent’ Vicario

Speaking on Off The Shelf, Robinson was asked what he’s made of Vicario’s start to life at Spurs.

“Hugely impressed with him,” the former Tottenham man said. “He’s got a lot of tests to come, it’s his first season.

“He’s a good age. I like the way he commands his box and his distribution is excellent.

“And taking over from Hugo, they are big shoes to fill.”

While Hugo Lloris struggled last season, coming in and replacing Tottenham’s long-term skipper should have been no easy task.

But Vicario has taken no time to adjust to Premier League football and he’s arguably been up there with the best goalkeepers in the division this term.

The 27-year-old also allows Spurs to play in the Ange Postecoglou way due to his composure on the ball. It’s no secret this was an area of Lloris’ game that was particularly weak.
