‘Should not have’… Micky Hazard thinks 27-year-old Tottenham ace cost Spurs v Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur legend Micky Hazard criticised Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario following their loss at Wolves on Saturday.

Hazard believes the Tottenham goalkeeper shouldn’t have played the ball short to Eric Dier when Spurs were 1-0 up.

Vicario had the chance to clear, but instead gave the ball to Dier, who misplaced a clearance out of play inside his own half.

From the resulting throw-in Wolves scored the equaliser, and in the end, the hosts made the most of the momentum to subsequently nick the win.

Hazard, responding to a fan on X, believes Vicario should not have passed to Dier and should’ve opted to play it long.

“Vicario should not have given it to Dier,” he wrote. “We are 1-0 up and they are pressing very high so turn them and play in their half.

“I think the end product of what happened says we got it wrong.”

Vicario not to blame for Tottenham loss – TBR View

It’s a bit harsh to blame Vicario in this instance. He barely put a foot wrong in the game. That’s how he plays anyway, and it’s how Postecoglou wants him – and the team – to play.

With three of Tottenham’s usual back four not available for the game, there was always going to be a drop-off in quality in defence.

This is something that can’t have been sorted out in just one transfer window. It takes at least three or so to really overhaul a squad and move on players that are surplus to requirements.

The January transfer window should provide an opportunity for Postecoglou to potentially bring in some more strength in depth, which could be followed up with more signings next summer.
