‘Unbelievable’: Peter Crouch now thinks Postecoglou struck gold with £17m signing this summer

Peter Crouch has now been singing the praises of Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham Hotspur after his showing against Chelsea.

Crouch was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and heralded the impact the Italian has had alongside Micky van de Ven.

And it did feel like a momentous night in Vicario’s Tottenham career.

Despite conceding four goals, the keeper made a real statement of his worth, and his character.

Tottenham were stripped back to their bare bones, but Crouch was right noticing that Vicario stood big.

Crouch said (7/11 9:08am): “And the goalkeeper as well Vicario, you have to say, an unbelievable signing as well.

“Two really, really important signings [alongside Van de Ven] that have made I think the difference for Tottenham this year.”

Of course, Crouch isn’t alone in thinking that Vicario has been a stellar addition for Tottenham this season.

Gary Neville admitted to initially having his reservations about the goalkeeper, but he did confirm that those doubts are now gone.

The pundit called Vicario’s performance ‘outstanding’ last night and backtracked on his opinion.

Of course, Crouch did also allude to the impact that Micky van de Ven has had.

And were he not to go off injured last night, Spurs may have been able to keeper better control of the game even with less numbers.

Unfortunately, van de Ven was spotted leaving the stadium on crutches last night after his painful hamstring injury.

The defender was visibly distressed, and could now face an extended period out.

On a positive note for Totteham, Eric Dier returned to the side in fine form and nearly scored a goal for the ages.

The offside flag curtailed his celebrations this time, but the defender should now have a chance to prove his worth to Ange Postecgolou.

Dier was often linked with a departure in recent months, but that may now be a bad idea.

Whilst Crouch thinks £17m Vicario has made a big impact for Tottenham, it will now be down to the extended squad to step up.

And it’ll certainly be interesting to see how Postecoglou lines up his side against Wolves.
