‘You can go’: Tottenham have told their £13m player he’s free to leave

Hugo Lloris is still a Tottenham player.

It’s hard to believe because we haven’t seen him at all this season, but the Frenchman is still on the books at Spurs.

The goalkeeper is in limbo at the moment as he’s seemingly nowhere near Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Spurs, but, at the same time, he is the club’s former captain and remains on the books.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Martin Lipton has clarified Lloris’ situation at Spurs, and he says that the club have told the goalkeeper that he’s free to leave with their blessing, suggesting that a January move could be in the offing for the goalkeeper.

Lloris free to leave

Lipton shared what he knows about the £13m man.

“With Lloris, they said to him you can go. With our blessing, you have been brilliant but it’s time to move on. He had a look but he didn’t like any of the offers. He has a year left on his contract, it’s not going to be renewed and he might decide in January that he does need to go and play. I can’t see why he’s staying, whereas Dier has a role to play, even if it’s not on the pitch,” Lipton said.

Where can he go?

Lloris is in a real difficult situation here as he’s not wanted at Tottenham, and there aren’t many top clubs that need a goalkeeper of his ilk at the moment.

The likes of David De Gea are already finding it hard enough to get a new club, while Aaron Ramsdale is looking for an escape from Arsenal without having any joy so far.

Lloris does need to leave Tottenham, but whether or not he is indeed able to find himself a new club at the right level remains to be seen.
