Hint dropped over ‘phenomenal’ 18-year-old making Spurs squad v Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has a number of injury and suspension issues to deal with ahead of their next Premier League encounter.

Spurs were involved in a chaotic match against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night.

And while Tottenham’s players emerged from the 4-1 defeat with considerable credit, the Spurs ranks were depleted during the game.

Centre-back is an area of particular concern. Micky van de Ven picked up a hamstring injury on Monday night, while Cristian Romero was sent off.

Eric Dier is likely to start for Tottenham against Wolves, but then Postecoglou has to think about who could partner him in defence.

Now, we may have just received a hint from the Tottenham Under-21s matchday squad for the EFL Trophy trip to Cambridge United.

Spurs summer signing Ashley Phillips has featured in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy this term, but he wasn’t named in their latest squad.

That could well be a hint that Postecoglou will at least want to take a look at the 18-year-old in training ahead of Saturday.

Phillips is a ‘phenomenal‘ talent who already has competitive senior experience at Blackburn Rovers.

He joined Tottenham in the summer for a reported £3million, having already made 14 outings for the Lancashire outfit.

Phillips yet to make his Spurs debut, but alongside Alfie Dorrington, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding the pair.

But while Dorrington started for the Under-21s on Tuesday night, Phillips did not, so it seems likely that the latter could potentially make the squad against Wolves.

Of course, Tottenham offloaded Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga over the summer, which leaves Phillips as their main back-up option after Dier.
