Jose Mourinho now likely to make January move to sign 29-year-old Tottenham player

AS Roma are reportedly considering a January move for Eric Dier, with Jose Mourinho open to a reunion with the defender in 2024.

According to CalcioMercato, the Italian side are keen to recruit a versatile defender for cheap in the winter window, with Dier one of the options for Roma.

The 29-year-old has largely been a backup option for Tottenham in recent seasons, and with Dier’s contract expiring next summer, cashing in on the England international in January could be a smart move.

And Italy could be the centre-back’s next destination, with Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham both enjoying huge success in the Eternal City under Mourinho.

With the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala also on their books, Roma’s squad is one of the most exciting in Serie A, and something that could entice Dier to make the move to Rome.

Indeed, with Tottenham open to offloading Dier, a transfer in January would make a lot of sense for all parties, and Mourinho’s relationship with the 29-year-old could accelerate a potential deal.

Having been criticised recently by the likes of Micah Richards and Frank Leboeuf, an exit from Tottenham might finally be what’s best for Dier in his career.

And Roma could be a dream destination for the defender, with Serie A proving to be an ideal division for English players who seem lost and in need of a new home.

With Mourinho at the helm, as well, Dier will have a familiar face on the touchline to show him the ropes and help him adapt to life in the Italian capital.

Moreover, with Euro 2024 coming up, a gladiatorial run of form with Roma could put Dier in contention for an England place at next summer’s competition.
