Ange Postecoglou suggests £51m striker is one of the only players who could’ve replaced Harry Kane at Tottenham

Tottenham finally sold Harry Kane this summer after years of speculation about the striker’s future.

Spurs’ talisman swapped north London for Munich in the summer, and after his departure, many were wondering how Tottenham were going to replace the England captain.

Many players were linked to Spurs as potential Kane replacements, but nobody could’ve predicted what Tottenham would do next.

Indeed, Spurs actually decided not to sign a direct Kane replacement, instead using Heung-Min Son as a striker this season to great effect.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about his thought process when it came to replacing Kane, and he acknowledged that it was an impossible task, claiming that, quite simply, there aren’t many strikers out there that can do what Kane did.

Postecoglou did name one player who could’ve potentially replaced Kane – Erling Haaland, but, as we all know, getting the £51m Norwegian out of Manchester City would be impossible for even the world’s biggest clubs, let alone Tottenham.

Haaland one of the only players who could replace Kane

Postecoglou spoke about the Kane situation and how Spurs could’ve replaced him.

“You try to think of solutions and the one thing I knew was impossible to do was to replace Harry. There is no other Harry Kane. You can give me £200m and unless you’re going to go and get Erling (Haaland), there aren’t many of those around. It’s impossible, so then your head goes ‘what solutions exist?’” Postecoglou said.

Impossible

Postecoglou is absolutely right, there simply aren’t many strikers at Kane’s level that are out there, and there certainly aren’t any that are attainable for Tottenham.

The likes of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski could probably do it, but Spurs were never in a position to sign any of those players.

Postecoglou was dealt a terrible hand here, but he struck gold in making Son that Kane replacement and using him up front.

Postecoglou has navigated this situation very well, it has to be said.
