‘The only one’… Patrick Bamford says there’s a youngster at Leeds who’s doing something nobody else is

Leeds United have some of the most talented young players in the EFL on their books right now.

The likes of Archie Gray, Charlie Cresswell and Georginio Rutter are making waves at first-team level, while there are plenty of other academy stars who could come good in the coming years.

One player who was tipped for big things not too long ago was Joe Gelhardt, and according to Patrick Bamford, this young man still has a bright future.

Speaking on the My Mate’s a Footballer Podcast, Bamford has been discussing Gelhardt and his development, and he says that the young striker is the only young player at Leeds who constantly asks for advice, and, for that reason, he reckons he could become a star in years to come.

Gelhardt is trying to learn

Bamford shared his verdict on the young striker.

“There’s some youngsters, there’s one called Joffy, he’s called Joe, but Joffy Gelhardt, when I was younger I used to like asking the older players tips and to help me and stuff. Joffy is the only one since I’ve been at Leeds really who wants to learn all the time and is always looking for tips, it might not be the next two years that makes him grow massively, in the long-term, definitely,” Bamford said.

Bodes well

Gelhardt may not be developing at the rate many expected him to when he first burst onto the scene at Leeds, but this sort of attitude certainly bodes well for his future.

Indeed, as a young player all you can do is work hard and try to improve, and it sounds as though Gelhardt is doing just that.

Bamford has a lot to teach the young striker as well. After all, he is an England international, and if he can pick up a few tips from his elder statesman, perhaps he could yet develop into a star for Leeds.

Gelhardt remains a young player to keep an eye on in the coming years.
