Tony Cascarino has claimed that Dominik Szoboszlai has been a better buy than Liverpool would have hoped for, as he named the Hungarian as his Premier League signing of the season so far.
Cascarino was speaking on talkSPORT (broadcast on 19/11; 8:43am) as he backed the 23-year-old to be a stalwart for the Reds for many years to come.
Dominik Szoboszlai has been a revelation since joining Liverpool in the summer. His record of one goal and two assists in the Premier League does not tell anything like the story of his form for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Danny Murphy said more people would be talking about Szoboszlai if it was not for the form of Jude Bellingham. Meanwhile, Paul Merson named Szoboszlai as his favourite Premier League player this season.
And Tony Cascarino has now named the youngster as his signing of the summer, with the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Declan Rice missing out on the award.
“I’ll probably go for Szoboszlai at Liverpool. There’s a bit of bias in there, obviously. But I do think they’ve got way more than they thought they’ve got,” he told talkSPORT.
“I think they knew he was a really good attacking midfielder with bundles of pace. I think he’s really arrived at Liverpool and set a new standard. Remember, that whole midfield was dismantled. And Liverpool needed to rebuild. And I thought he’s come in and he’s looked from the very first game that he’s going to be a hell of a player for Liverpool over the next five or six years.”

Reds’ transfer masterstroke
Liverpool signing Szoboszlai in the summer is looking like a masterstroke. Certainly, plenty of clubs will be kicking themselves that they did not make a move when they had a chance.
The Athletic reported that a lot of teams wanted Szoboszlai before his £60.1 million move to Liverpool. However, they were all put off by how much they would have to pay up front for the attacking midfielder.
Liverpool made the decision to sign him from RB Leipzig. And that is proving to be an inspired decision.
As Cascarino notes, Liverpool have had to rebuild their midfield. They remain a work in progress. But in Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, they have three players who could be key men for such a long time.
It says everything that Szoboszlai has been the best signing of the lot.
