Pundit says Liverpool have a 23-year-old in their ranks who’s ‘such a strong runner’

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has been praised by pundit Neil Mellor for how he has brought the best out of the Reds.

Mellor, speaking on the Review Show – as per the Liverpool website – says the 23-year-old “is influencing games really well” for the Reds.

Szoboszlai has been one of the standout summer signings in the Premier League so far this term, having proven a revelation for Liverpool since his recent move.

The Reds paid a reported £60million to sign him from RB Leipzig. Much like Virgil van Dijk, he’s making his high fee look a bargain.

Szoboszlai has registered two goals and two assists from 13 outings. But more importantly, he has improved the Reds team as a whole.

“We talk about Szoboszlai every game, but we can’t ignore him as he has so much involvement,” said Mellor.

“The assist for Mo Salah was absolutely brilliant, he just makes himself available for his teammates.

“What I really like about him is he is such a strong runner with the ball and he sets us off on the attack, only Darwin Nunez beat him for sprints forward on the day.

“He just reads the game really well, intercepts really well and he fits what Liverpool is all about, he is influencing games really well.”

Our view

When Liverpool had to overhaul their entire midfield this summer, there were some panic bells ringing, particularly when two players who weren’t expected to leave ended up doing so.

Then you had the Reds’ failed pursuit of both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom ended up joining Chelsea, which was a further blow to morale.

However, Liverpool did superbly to get four midfielders over the line, and so far, each one of them has done well.

Szoboszlai has very much been the standout, thanks to how he has completely transformed the Reds team. He looks like he has a huge career in the game, and the best is surely yet to come.

Liverpool are next in action on Wednesday night when they head to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup. Let’s see whether the Hungary international plays or whether Klopp opts to rest him.
