Sky Sports reporter says Leeds defender was ‘magnificent’ v Leicester

Leeds United talent Archie Gray earned praise from Sky Sports reporter Simeon Gholam in Friday’s Championship win at Leicester.

The 17-year-old Whites academy graduate is a midfielder by trade, but has been featuring at right-back for Daniel Farke’s side lately.

On Friday, Gray had the unenviable task of being up against Stephy Mavididi, one of the best 1v1 wingers in the league.

Far from being overwhelmed, the Elland Road talent delivered a solid display, making good passes and displaying outstanding composure.

Gholam, covering the match on Sky Sports, was stunned by how good Gray is and how well he did in the 1-0 win at the King Power.

“Archie Gray has been beaten once by Mavididi but other than that he has been magnificent,” he said, as per the Sky Sports website.

“Playing out of his regular midfield position at right-back, he is some talent.

“Just a reminder as well that he was born three months before the start of the 2006 World Cup in Germany – if you wanted to feel old.”

Gray has not only made his Leeds debut this season, but has already clocked up 16 appearances, including 14 Championship outings.

Last season, the 17-year-old was in and around the Whites first team last term, making multiple matchday squads.

And this season, Gray is a regular in Farke’s team at Elland Road, and already has 1,266 minutes under his belt.

For a player to become a regular in the second tier for a promotion-chasing side before he’s even 18 is testament to his talent and potential.

There’s no doubt Gray will go on to become a star in the game if he continues on this trajectory.
