Georginio Rutter says he wishes he could’ve played with striker Leeds United sold for just £1m

Leeds United have had some fantastic players in their history.

From Billy Bremner to Rio Ferdinand all the way to Raphinha, the Whites have had some world-class talent pass through Elland Road over the years.

However, Georginio Rutter has named a different player as the one man from Leeds’ history he’d most liked to have shared the pitch with.

Speaking on the JD Sports Football YouTube channel, Rutter was asked which player from Leeds’ history he’d most liked to have played with, and he named Eric Cantona as the one man he wishes he could’ve worked alongside for Leeds.

Rutter wishes he could’ve played with Cantona.

“This is a question just for Leeds, if you could play with any player from Leeds’ history who would you play with?” Rutter was asked.

“Eric Cantona,” The striker responded.

Imagine

The idea of Rutter playing up front with Eric Cantona is a mouth-watering prospect.

Of course, they’re nowhere near the same level as each other, but there is a bit of Cantona in Rutter’s game.

Both men are strikers that love to work with the ball and make their opponents look like fools, while neither man’s goalscoring prowess was ever their main selling point.

Cantona and Rutter would’ve made quite the partnership it has to be said.

Of course, this answer from Rutter may not go down all that well with the Leeds fanbase. After all, Cantona is much more of a Manchester United legend than a Leeds legend, and after his £1m move to Old Trafford from Elland Road, he wasn’t the most popular figure in West Yorkshire.

However, as a Frenchman, we can excuse Rutter for idolising Cantona in this way, and it has to be said, regardless of your allegiance, that Cantona is one of world football’s greats.
