Celtic have just signed a ‘class’ player who’s ‘quite incredible’

Celtic have completed the signing of James McCarthy.

He is a player who has previously been described as “class”, “excellent” and “quite incredible”.

The Hoops announced McCarthy’s arrival on a free transfer on Tuesday, the player penning a four-year contract at Parkhead.

The 30-year-old joined Celtic alongside Joe Hart, who arrived at Parkhead from Tottenham Hotspur.

McCarthy is a veteran player with 272 Premier League appearances and 42 Republic of Ireland caps to his name.

The midfielder has also featured 37 times in the Scottish Premiership for Hamilton Academical.

Celtic have signed an “excellent” player

In January 2020, former Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson sung McCarthy’s praises.

The player, who was out for most of 2018 due with a tibia and fibula fracture, was looking back to his best.

“Really pleased, I think he’s been excellent, getting better and better,” OTB Sports quoted Hodgson as saying.

“We knew it would take a little bit of time because although he was training for quite a long period of time with Everton before he came to us – when he came to us he was technically fit, there was nothing wrong with him, the injury was in the distant past.

“I always knew that the more he did with us, the more training, the more period of time that went by, the chances he would get, getting some minutes here and there, he would get stronger and stronger.

“That’s exactly what he’s done and I thought the action that he performed for our equalizing goal (against Manchester City) on Saturday was quite incredible.

“To win the ball back that late in the game, to win a difficult challenge, to get himself back up on his feet and produce that pass, that was a real class act I though.

“It just shows my faith in him as a class player was being rewarded.

“And his faith in himself and his determination to get back to that level of football, also being rewarded.

“He deserves an awful lot of credit.”
