‘That’s insane’: Some Celtic fans can’t believe one contract detail about new Hoops signing

New Celtic signing James McCarthy has penned a four-year contract at Parkhead – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter can’t believe the length of the deal.

The Hoops completed a double signing on Tuesday to inject some experienced players into their squad.

First of all, Celtic signed 34-year-old goalkeeper Joe Hart on a three-year deal from Tottenham. His challenge now will be to try fix what has been a problem position in recent times.

However, it’s the second signing that has caused a hot topic of debate on social media.

Celtic confirmed the signing of McCarthy at the same time at Hart, but he was available on a free transfer following his exit from Crystal Palace. Interestingly, the Irish midfielder has agreed a four-year contract with his new club.

The 30-year-old’s poor injury luck in recent years is well documented, so some Bhoys fans on Twitter are not too pleased about the length of his contract.

Celtic show huge trust with four-year James McCarthy deal

McCarthy hasn’t had the best rhythm to his game in the last few years, but it’s worth noting he did make 35 appearances for Palace during the 2019/20 season.

In reality, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could do with his new midfield signing to hit the ground fairly quickly.

It seems odd a long-term contract given the variables, but perhaps it’s the kind of trust that will give major confidence to the player.

He has the quality and experience to improve this side if fit.
