Celtic fans urge club to sign boyhood fan after release

Boyhood Celtic fan James McCarthy has emerged as a target for the Hoops after the Irishman was released by Premier League outfit Crystal Palace. Reports say that Celtic are considering a move for the 42-time Ireland star. Now, Celtic fans have reacted – many believe McCarthy is a good addition.

The 30-year-old clocked up 16 Premier League appearances for Palace during 2020-21 but was not enough to convince the Eagles over a new deal. Plenty of players have left Palace this summer, including Andros Townsend, Gary Cahill, Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann and Patrick van Aanholt.

What are Celtic fans saying about signing midfielder McCarthy?

Well, a report from The Mail claims Celtic are considering a move. The Hoops have been linked with McCarthy in the past but wages and a transfer fee have proved to be an issue. Now, with McCarthy a free agent, there is much more chance that Celtic could pull off a deal.

The report states that McCarthy is a boyhood Hoops fan. A bit of grit in the middle of the park, to replace the loss of Scott Brown, could be just what Celtic need. On a free, there is little risk with perhaps a two-year deal for McCarthy. Many Hoops fans are desperate to see a deal materialise.
