Italian site Calcio Mercato claim Newcastle United are interested in signing Atalanta star Ederson ahead of the January window – and are willing to spend £17.5million to land the in-form Brazilian.
Ederson, 24, has been in excellent form for the Serie A side this season. Joining the club in the summer of 2022, he was a regular last term but hardly set the league alight. This term, that is starting to change.
The midfielder has scored five goals in 16 games for an Atalanta side that are going through transition. He has started 14, coming on in two. His form has not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle said to be keen.
The report claims that Newcastle had shown interest in his Dutch teammate Teun Koopmeiners. But, Atalanta would request a fee that could be as much as £61m. So, they have turned attention to Ederson.

It is claimed that Newcastle want to raid Atalanta for the Brazilian as they look to bring in more depth in midfield, with injuries taking their toll. The Toon are willing to spend a fee in the region of £17.5m on him.
However, the report also makes it clear that Atalanta would reject such an offer for Ederson – given they want around double if they were to cash in on the midfielder. It is clear they will be active in January.
Is Ederson good enough for Newcastle? Koopmeiners is more the kind of quality of midfielder that The Toon should be looking at. But, if they are simply looking for a rotational player – Ederson could do a job.
