Arsenal now ‘extremely’ unlikely to sign £55m player in January

Arsenal are reportedly unlikely to sign Benjamin Sesko in the January transfer window, with a move in 2024 as a whole potentially off the table.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, RB Leipzig are eager to keep hold of the Slovenian international at all costs having spent a reported £55m last summer to bring Sesko to the Bundesliga.

Regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking prospects, Sesko has emerged as a target for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta looks to bring in a long-term striking option in 2024.

However, the 20-year-old attacker could now be off the table, with Leipzig unwilling to do business with anyone until at least 2025 when Sesko is more developed.

Jacobs said when asked about Arsenal’s prospects of signing Sesko: “He only joined Leipzig in 2023, so I think anything in January is going to be extremely difficult.

“I think that even in the summer of 2024, it’s not a guarantee that he will leave Leipzig. It might be in 2025 that Sesko moves somewhere, but January isn’t going to happen, from talking to sources.”

A striker is clearly what Arsenal are looking to spend big on next year, and Sesko could be a dream long-term option for Arteta alongside Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

And whilst Leipzig’s stance on Sesko is clear, this coming from the same club who sold their three most important players this summer to Premier League teams for premium prices.

Whilst this could change with Sesko, Arsenal will have the funds to break the bank on the attacker, who he himself could be sold on a move to north London for the right price.
