Report: Newcastle United agree deal to sell DeAndre Yedlin before deadline

Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin’s much-touted move to Galatasaray is set to go ahead, with reports suggesting the USMNT right-back is all set to travel to Turkey in the coming hours.

ESPN is reporting that Yedlin is set to make his way to Istanbul to undergo his medical after the two clubs finally came to an arrangement on a deal.

The report claims that Yedlin had initially planned to remain at Newcastle. However, with his contract at St James’s Park expiring in the summer the Turkish giants pounced to arrange a pre-contract move, which was agreed on Tuesday.

Now, the two clubs have come to an agreement that will allow Yedlin to head to Galatasaray earlier than expected.

It is claimed that Newcastle did inform Yedlin he was in Steve Bruce’s plans for the remainder of the season.

However, Yedlin decided to pursue a permanent deal with no offer of a new contract on the table.

Newcastle signed Yedlin in 2016 for a deal reportedly worth around £5 million following an impressive stint on loan at local rivals Sunderland. As reported by the Daily Mail in September, that is the fee Newcastle wanted to recoup in order to sell Yedlin last summer but such a fee was never forthcoming.

There is no comment in the report about the fee involved. However, it is not likely to be a sizable sum, given Yedlin’s current contract status.
