Report: Everton could still sell Jonjoe Kenny before deadline day with Burnley frontrunners

Everton left out a heap of first-team names for their drab 2-0 loss to Newcastle United this weekend, with those missing expected to be securing moves away from Goodison Park.

The players in question were Cenk Tosun, Bernard and Jonas Lossl – who did not replace the absent Robin Olsen on the bench.

All three are expected to leave the club before February 1st which, by extension, would suggest those involved v Newcastle are clear of the Everton chopping block.

Apparently not. Jonjoe Kenny was on the bench yesterday but according to the Liverpool ECHO could still be pushed out this month.

Kenny has failed to capitalise on a positive loan stint with Schalke in Germany last season. Instead, he has likely slipped behind Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey when it comes to Seamus Coleman back-up options.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, that means Everton are still willing to sell Kenny this month, with Burnley the frontrunners to secure his signature.

As reported by Lancashire Live earlier this week, Sean Dyche wants Kenny at Turf Moor and will return for him in the summer if a deal cannot be forged before the upcoming deadline. The Mirror (24/01/21; pg 67) claim Everton want £10 million for the England under-21 international, which may be a stumbling block.

Everton fans have always wondered if Kenny can be the long-term replacement for Coleman at Goodison Park but he has failed to show himself worthy of that responsibility under Carlos Ancelotti.

All that remains to be seen is if Burnley can get the deal done before the deadline passes.
