‘Trust me’: Paul Merson now makes claim about what Ange Postecoglou did at Celtic

Ange Postecoglou’s legacy at Celtic will never be forgotten by the fans. What he achieved after picking up from the shambles of the COVID season was simply sensational.

The brand of football was something no team could cope with but what was even more impressive is how he got players who were on the fringes to perform out of their skin for him.

And that has convinced Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, that Spurs are in for a successful period with the Australian at the helm.

Merson said [Sky Sports], “I like what he’s doing for Spurs on the pitch too. I like the way they are playing.

“I said when he got the job that it was an amazing appointment by Spurs. I saw Celtic play enough times under him to know he’d do well.

“To get Celtic playing like they did, and I know people will say it is against lesser teams, but he was getting lesser players to play in that way. Trust me, that’s hard.

“Now, at Spurs, he has better players to work with so you know it’s going to be a success.”

Ange Postecoglou worked miracles with the players at Celtic

Ange just seemed to have that ability to install a belief in players that they could match, and beat , any team that was put in front of them.

Players who never really looked like making it at Celtic seemed to just flourish under Postecoglou and that led to a double in his first season.

Look at Anthony Ralston as the perfect example. The full back looked like he was on his way out at Celtic but under Ange and his new system, he turned into an international defender.

And there are numerous examples of that throughout the Celtic team. Greg Taylor is another one who was struggling before Ange took over and even now he is an ever present under Brendan Rodgers.

Even the players that Ange brought in where incredible under him. Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Matt O’Riley and Joe Hart. All players who were out in the cold at their former clubs and all where turned into champions and into Champions League quality players.

Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi, all relatively unknown and now all superstars at Celtic.

Ange has something about him and he’s working his magic at Spurs. I’m sure they do but the Tottenham fans are lucky to have him and I guarantee they will be celebrating success sooner rather than later.
