Celtic transfer breakthrough for key Postecoglou target – report

Celtic have reportedly struck a deal to bring Daizen Maeda to Parkhead in the January transfer window.

According to Yahoo! Japan, the Hoops will bring the Yokohama F Marinos forward to Glasgow on an initial loan.

Celtic then have the option to sign Maeda permanently in the summer for 2m euro (£1.7m), added the outlet.

Sky Sports has also reported a breakthrough in negotiations.

They claim Celtic have reached an agreement to sign Maeda on loan in January with a permanent deal option in summer.

The 24-year-old is reportedly one of Ange Postecoglou’s key targets, the two having worked together at Yokohama.

Maeda registered 23 goals and three assists in the J-League last season, helping his team to second place.

The Japan international was joint-top scorer in the division and featured in the league’s best XI.

As per The Scotsman, he featured heavily in the top 10 for sprints per game in the J-League this past season.

Maeda also recorded the most touches in the opposition box and second most shots.

In addition, the offside flag only went up against him 10 times in nearly 3,000 minutes of football last term.

A versatile player, Maeda can play on the flanks or centrally, as second striker or centre-forward.
