Ange Postecoglou could start 22-year-old ‘superstar’ against Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur head to Manchester City on Sunday for an intriguing Premier League encounter against the reigning Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League holders.

Even if Spurs had a full-strength team, they’d still be deemed the underdogs against a Citizens outfit that has only lost only one of their last 48 home games in all competitions.

However, Tottenham are currently in the midst of a major injury crisis, with no fewer than nine Spurs players unavailable for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Moreover, Tottenham need to manage their squad for what is normally the busiest period of the year in terms of the fixture list.

One decision Postecoglou will have to think about involves his midfield and, as a knock-on effect, his attack.

As per football.london, the Spurs boss was disappointed with how the midfield trio of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr played in the centre against Wolves.

The midfield duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Giovani Lo Celso, with Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Bryan Gil in attack, created a lot more against Aston Villa.

Obviously with Bentancur and Sarr now also on the sidelines, Postecoglou will need to switch things round again.

The Spurs boss could potentially push Kulusevski down into midfield alongside Bissouma and Lo Celso, and opt for a front three of Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-min and Gil.

It would be good to see Gil start again. He worked hard against Villa and showed some glimpses of quality, but his decision making wasn’t the best on the day.

That could just be as it was his first Premier League start since April, so he might’ve been rusty. More game time should do him a world of good.

Gil is yet to truly get going at Tottenham. He was hoping to impress Postecoglou in pre-season, but sadly an injury put him on the sidelines in the early stages of the campaign.

Now fully fit and raring to go, the young ‘superstar‘ will be eager to make up for lost time and show both his manager and the Tottenham fanbase what he can truly do.
