Callum McGregor posted amazing numbers as Celtic romped to Motherwell win

Callum McGregor put up amazing numbers in Celtic’s win.

The 28-year-old Parkhead skipper led by example as the Bhoys secured a crucial win.

On a day where Rangers dropped points, getting a win was crucial.

That’s exactly what Ange Postecoglou’s side managed to do too.

McGregor didn’t score or assists during the 2-0 triumph, but he certainly played his part.

Jota stole the headlines with a goal and an assist, but McGregor’s work pulling the strings in midfield was incredible.

He played the full 90 minutes and dictated everything on the day.

McGregor had a mammoth 108 touches of the ball and made 5 key passes on the day (FotMob).

He also helped things ticking over as he completed 84 passes, including 3 accurate long balls.

He also completed a whopping 19 recoveries.

These are ludicrously good numbers.

Celtic’s midfield was fantastic against Motherwell and McGregor was the cream of the crop.

If he continues to put in performances like the one yesterday then it won’t take long at all for Celtic to overtake Rangers.

Whilst Ange Postecogolou’s side were winning 2-0, Rangers were drawing 1-1 with Hearts.

The win takes Celtic up to 4th on 16 points after nine games.

When the season gets into full swing and we’re clear of these constant international breaks, we’ll see things really take shape.

For now, though, Celtic will have to continue picking up points game by game.

With the fantastic McGregor putting in performances like yesterday, that shouldn’t be too difficult.

The only thing you’d ask from McGregor is for more goal contributions.

His only goal in 15 games this season came in Champions League qualifying (Transfermarkt) and fans will want to see him adding goals domestically.
