John Hartson says Celtic player was ‘pulling the strings’ in last night’s 3-0 win

John Hartson says Callum McGregor was a standout for Celtic in last night’s victory in the Europa League qualifier.

The Hoops beat Czech opponents FK Jablonec 3-0 at Parkhead as they cruised past the third qualifying round of the Europa League. It means Ange Postecoglou’s side will face Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the play-off game to reach the group stages of the competition.

Postecoglou endured a difficult start to life as Celtic boss this season, but a recent run of results means his team are beginning to build some momentum.

A 7-2 aggregate victory for the Scottish giants over FK Jablonec didn’t flatter them, so it’s clear their attacking ideas are beginning to work on the pitch.

David Turnbull (two) and James Forrest were the goalscorers during Thursday night’s win.

Pundit and ex-Bhoys forward Hartson loved the overall performance from Celtic yesterday. But, McGregor got a special mention for his work in the centre of the park.

McGregor filling key position in Celtic team

McGregor, 28, is clearly the individual stepping up following the departure of Scott Brown.

First of all, he’s now wearing the armband on the pitch and looks a vocal figure that boosts others around him. In addition, the way he’s operating in the centre of the park has similarities.

McGregor is showing his class this season to drop into deeper positions and the central midfielder is allowing those teammates in front of him to thrive.

This Postecoglou method is still formulating, but it’s clear McGregor is at the centre of his plans.

He didn’t have to overexert himself last night, but breezed through the game with real class.
