Callum McGregor helping ease the pain of John McGinn transfer failure

In the summer Celtic desperately tried to get hold of Hibernian midfielder John McGinn. His creative style of play was wanted in the heart of Celtic’s midfield and Brendan Rodgers made him a top target.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Bhoys had three bids rejected for the player this summer. A £2 million offer was the final one tabled by Celtic for his services. Hibernian valued him at £4 million if selling to a Scottish rival.

In the end, Rodgers was left disappointed. Aston Villa got the player, spending £2.75 million for the pleasure.

However, one player is showing that Celtic perhaps never needed him. Callum McGregor is perhaps showcasing some of his best form ever for the Bhoys.

The 24-year-old has been asked to play something of a deeper role in recent weeks, owing to the absence of club captain Scott Brown.

He has certainly not shirked his responsibility. McGregor has been in fantastic form and highlighted aspects of his game perhaps under-appreciated when playing further up the pitch.

His displays certainly have fans at Celtic purring. With Ryan Christie now starting to come good, it could be Celtic had their own version of McGinn all along.
