Update given on whether Celtic could re-sign Jota in January transfer window

The rumours surrounding Celtic re-signing Jota are simply not going away anytime soon, are they?

The Portuguese winger was an absolute favourite of the fans at Celtic and I think it would be fair to say that should he return to the club, it would be an incredible coup.

With Tottenham Hotspur apparently in the running to sign Jota as well as Celtic, if the Glasgow club were to follow up any interest in him then they would have competition that they simply could not match in terms of a financial package.

However, Jota loved his time at Celtic. He was very vocal in that when he left the club and if Brendan Rodgers did make an enquiry, who’s to say he would rule it out completely?

The possibility of Jota returning to Celtic

Journalist, Mark Guidi, seems to have ruled out a return though. Speaking about a potential return to Glasgow for the Treble-winning winger, Guidi reckons that there is one huge stumbling block that would make any deal impossible.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I think that would be unlikely. The wages that he’d be earning, I think it’d be more natural even to go abroad somewhere or go to England.

“Also Celtic have Palma and Yang, they’ve got wide players, so what do you do? Do you want to bring Jota back and it will hamper those two?”

Cards on the table, I would love to see Jota back at Celtic but I am also a realist. And whilst Guidi believes that wages could be an issue, the Portuguese is not going to get the same contract even at Spurs.

Spurs can definitely outmuscle Celtic in that department but can they pull at Jota’s heartstrings like the Parkhead club will even with Ange Postecoglou there? I doubt it.

Unfortunately, though, I think Guidi is correct. Although Jota would be incredible for Celtic, I think that time has passed and he’s more likely to end up in England or on the continent.

In other news, Mark Guidi says he’s been told by people at Celtic that £3m summer signing is not good enough
