La Liga player Celtic were told to sign for free scores on international duty again

With the international break well and truly underway, it’s great to watch Celtic players pit their wits against some of the best players in the world.

The Hoops currently have 14 players on international duty and TBR Celtic will be bringing updates throughout the day on how they have performed.

However, with a lot of the chat surrounding Celtic and their apparent hunt for another striker, one they were told to sign back in March for free by Emilio Izaguirre has just scored on international duty again.

Honduras striker Anthony ‘Choco’ Lozano scored against Mexico this weekend in the Nations League quarter-final in the Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés.

The 30-year-old Getafe striker signed for the La Liga club for free in the summer but was recommended to Celtic just as his contract was running down.

Anthony ‘Choco’ Lozano for Celtic?

Lozano has now scored in three out of Honduras’ last four international fixtures and against the Mexicans he was assisted by none other than Celtic’s very own, Luis Palma.

The Honduran frontman has 40 caps and nine goals to his name for his country but is yet to break his scoring duck for Getafe as they hover just seven points above the relegation places. [Sky Sports]

Lozano has scored 62 times in 332 career appearances and has also created 27 assists. Not the best scoring record for an international striker but it is clear he is in good form for his country right now.

Highly rated as a youngster, Lozano signed for Barcelona ‘B’ for €1.3m (£1.1m) back in 2017 but failed to make a single appearance for the Catalan giants. [La Presna]

But at 30, signing Lozano would have meant making a major shift from Celtic’s transfer policy of buying young players to sell on for a profit but could the Honduran have offered that much-needed cover even coming off the bench?
