Newcastle want to sign £200,000-a-week player, but he would love Tottenham Hotspur transfer

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United want to sign Jota in the January transfer window, but the winger fancies a move to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur instead.

That is according to 90min, which has claimed why Jota prefers a move to Tottenham.

So, what is being reported about Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Jota? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to 90min, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Al Ittihad winger Jota in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that both the Magpies and Spurs could make bids for the former Celtic star.

Al Ittihad are willing to let the £200,000-a-week (The Scottish Sun) winger leave, and the player himself is ready to part company with the Saudi Pro League club despite joining them from Celtic only in the summer of 2023.

Newcastle want to sign Jota, but the problem that the Magpies could face is that their owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), are affiliated with Al Ittihad.

90min has added that Tottenham are keen on Jota, who, despite being open to all options, “would love to reunite with Ange Postecoglou having worked with him for two years at Celtic”.

Spurs were linked with the winger in the summer transfer window as well.

Tottenham Hotspur have advantage over Newcastle United for Jota

In my view, Tottenham Hotspur are more likely than Newcastle United in the January transfer window to sign Jota.

First of all, Tottenham do not have any links with Al-Ittihad like Newcastle have, so the North London club would not face any opposition in trying to get a deal done for the 24-year-old.

Secondly, the winger himself wants to work with Ange Postecoglou again. That could be a big factor.

After all, Jota knows Postecoglou from his time at Celtic, and the Portuguese star could feel that his former manager could help him get adjusted to the Premier League.
