Celtic’s ‘terrific’ £3.5m summer signing was available for just over £200k report claims

Celtic have been lauded, and rightly so, for their ability to sniff out a bargain in the transfer market and sell them on for huge profits.

There are numerous examples of this over the years and the club has prospered financially because of their transfer model.

Even at Celtic now, Brendan Rodgers has players like Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda who have all been valued at over £10m.

All four are likely to go for huge money and earn the club a massive profit but there is one player who was signed during the summer who has shown the potential that he could be the next player that will eventually leave for big money.

Luis Palma was a £3.5m summer signing from Aris FC. So far this season the 23-year-old has impressed pundits and fans alike with some of his performances for Celtic.

He certainly has been value for money but a report from Spain has claimed that he was being offered to clubs in La Liga and across Europe for just over £200k less than two years ago.

Marca says that Palma’s ‘representatives’ had tried to set up a deal with MLS second-tier side Real Monarchs but when that fell through he was offered to clubs from Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico and Spain for just €250k.

For less than a tenth of what Celtic paid, the report says over 40 clubs knocked back the opportunity to sign the now Honduran international.

Palma is said to be one of Honduras’ best players of recent times. The amount of coverage he gets from his national media is quite incredible.

Impressing not only at Celtic, Palma is also doing a great job for his country and was named in the CONCACAF Team of the Week during the last international break.

Celtic may have paid a hefty fee for the ‘terrific‘ Palma but there is no doubt that even at £3.5m, the young winger still looks like incredible value for money.
