‘Will be’… Journalist says Celtic legend has a great chance of landing international job

International week brings up all sorts of stories about Celtic players and their performances for their respective countries.

Whilst Luis Palma and Cameron Carter-Vickers impress, it is Liam Scales’ Republic of Ireland that seems to be under serious scrutiny right now.

As the Irish crash out of the running to qualify for Euro 2024, national boss Stephen Kenny finds himself under intense pressure as speculation intensifies about his position at the association.

And journalist, Mark Guidi has said that former Celtic hero, Neil Lennon, has a great chance of landing the job should it become vacant.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I think Neil Lennon has ruled himself out [of the Ross County job].

“I think Neil Lennon is more than a 50/50 chance will be the next manager of the Republic of Ireland.

“Stephen Kenny, is probably going to get the sack in the next week or so. So that job will be available.”

Appointing Neil Lennon would be an ambitious move for the Irish Fa. The Celtic legend has had a trophy-laden career both as a player and a manager and has vast experience at managerial level.

After his two spells at Celtic where Lennon enjoyed unprecedented success, he also had a successful spell at Hibs and Cypriot side, Omonia Nicosia, where he won the Cypriot Cup and took them into the Europa League group stages for the first time in their history.

If there is one man that has a chance of returning the glory days to the Republic of Ireland it is Lennon. His passion for being successful always seems to get that extra 10% out of his players and that is something that seems to be lacking for Ireland.

This is one TBR Celtic will watch closely as having Lennon in such a high-profile job as Ireland is bound to be of interest to the Hoops support.
