‘Didn’t have the opportunity’… Pundit says £22m player was never allowed to prove himself at Arsenal

Alex Iwobi looks to be much improved this season at Fulham.

The Nigeria international has quickly established himself as one of the Whites’ key players, and on Monday he was brilliant against Wolves.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Jermaine Beckford has been discussing Iwobi and his journey in his career so far, and he noted how the midfielder was never really given the opportunities he perhaps should have had during his time at Arsenal.

Beckford says that Iwobi was just a bit-part player at Arsenal, claiming that he wasn’t allowed to truly express himself during his time at the Emirates.

Iwobi didn’t get the chances at Arsenal

Beckford spoke about the £22m man.

“Alex Iwobi is one of those players, he either really excited you or he’s really frustrating. At Arsenal he was a bit-part player, so he didn’t have the opportunity to express himself and show exactly what he’s about and his qualities. At Everton he was a good player in a poor bunch of players, and now at Fulham I want to see the best of him, he’s trying, but if you don’t have the outlet and the out-ball it’s hard for those creative players to show their talents,” Beckford said.

Would be brilliant for Arteta

After watching Iwobi this season, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that Iwobi would be brilliant in this Arsenal team.

The midfielder is exactly what Arsenal need in that Granit Xhaka role. He’s transformed into a true box-to-box player who is fantastic at progressing the ball and playing out of pressure, while, as he showed against Wolves, he’s getting better at arriving into the box late and grabbing goals.

Iwobi has found himself at Fulham, and perhaps there is a small part of Arsenal that regret selling him when they did.
