‘Can’t see that’… Alasdair Gold says ‘brilliant’ player probably won’t leave Tottenham in January now

Tottenham’s January plans may have changed in recent weeks.

After an incredible start to the season, the north London club would’ve been forgiven for thinking they didn’t have much work to do in January. However, after three losses in three games, alarm bells are starting to ring at Spurs.

Tottenham’s lack of depth is there for all to see at the moment, and that may well affect what they do in January.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has been discussing how Spurs’ plans may have changed, and he claims that Oliver Skipp may now not be able to leave on loan as Tottenham’s midfield personnel are becoming increasingly stretched.

Skipp won’t leave in January

Gold shared his verdict on the ‘brilliant’ midfielder.

“With Bentancur, the other knock-on effect you get in January is that someone like Oliver Skipp would probably want to get a loan, but I can’t see that happening now, there are such a cluster of games in December, the likelihood of going that far without another injury seems so unlikely,” Gold said.

Can’t let him go

While a move away from Tottenham on loan would make a lot of sense for Skipp in January, letting him go would be a huge risk.

Tottenham are already short on midfielders, and with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr set to head to the African Cup of Nations in the winter, they will be stretched even further.

Simply put, loaning Skipp out is a risk that Tottenham can’t afford to take, especially if their dip in form continues throughout December and they find themselves with some ground to make up on the top four.

Skipp may have to stay at Tottenham throughout the winter, and we can only hope he eventually gets his chance in the team.
