Tony Cascarino waxes lyrical about 23-year-old Manchester City enforcer

Former striker Tony Cascarino has lauded the impact of Ruben Dias at Manchester City during his latest comment piece in The Times.

The Portuguese performer signed for the Citizens in the summer for a fee in the region of £65 million from Benfica (Sky Sports).

He has played 45 times for City this season, striking up a formidable partnership with John Stones.

Pep Guardiola’s men will go in search of a place in the Champions League Final when they face PSG tonight.

Dias was once again impressive last week as his team secured a 2-1 win over the French champions in their own back yard.

Now, Cascarino has raved about the defender, praising the impact he’s had on the Premier League outfit.

He told The Times: “The signing of Ruben Dias has had a transformative effect on City’s defence as Virgil van Dijk did when he joined Liverpool in 2018. Dias has to be the leading contender for PFA Player of the Year.

“City’s strength in depth is remarkable and the scary thing is that City will try to strengthen in the summer.”

It sounds a strange thing to say given all of City’s attacking talent, but Dias has been a remarkable signing for the club.

The 23-year-old has been a revelation in Guardiola’s team and the £115,000-a-week player will only get better in the coming years.

Dias has proved a pillar of consistency at the back for City and if his form continues, the Champions League crown could head to the blue half of Manchester for the first time.

Few could have anticipated such an impact made by the defender and supporters will hope his form gets even better.

City have been formidable this season and the form of Dias has ensured such a successful campaign for Guardiola’s team.
