Alan Shearer names three Manchester City players in his Team of the Week

Alan Shearer named three Manchester City players in his regular segment of Premier League Team of the Week.

Man City recorded a dominant 2-0 victory away to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, as they extended their lead at the top of the league standings.

Pep Guardiola’s side continued their charge towards the league title with yet another three points.

They are still competing in four competitions this season in an attempt to try complete an unlikely quadruple, with their attention currently on Tuesday night’s Champions League first leg quarter-final tie against Borussia Dortmund.

Shearer was amazed by Man City’s latest display, picking Kevin De Bruyne, Benjamin Mendy and Ruben Dias in his Team of the Week for the Premier League’s official website.

£350,000-a-week (Spotrac) attacking midfielder De Bruyne failed to get on the scoresheet, but was so influential against Leicester with his possession on the ball.

“Superb again. His passing is a joy to watch, and he was unlucky to hit the crossbar with a free-kick,” he wrote about De Bruyne.

“The left-back showed his ability with a clinical right-footed finish, while playing his part in the clean sheet,” he wrote about Mendy

“Reliable as ever, keeping Leicester City’s dangerous attack very quiet,” he wrote about Dias.

TBR’s View:

De Bruyne, 29, is at the peak of his powers right now, and the most talented individual at the Etihad Stadium.

His return of seven goals and 16 assists across all competitions so far this season is extremely strong, but it may only be the beginning with plenty of matches left to play.

They’ll surely have enough to get over the line for the league crown, plus they’ll be favourite in the Carabao Cup final later this month against Tottenham, but it’s on the Champions League stage where they need their best players to come to the fore.
