‘Hell yea’, ‘sign him asap’: Some Spurs fans react to links with ‘absolutely perfect’ 6ft 1in defender

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the latest transfer rumour linking Spurs to Benfica defender Ruben Dias.

According to Football London, Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is planning to raid his old club again, after taking Gedson Fernandes on loan from the Portuguese giants in February.

Dias has come through the ranks at Benfica and is now one of Europe’s most sought after young defenders, with 124 competitive club appearances and 17 Portugal caps under his belt already.

The 22-year-old, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, signed a new deal in November, which increased his buy-out clause to £80million, according to Football London.

However, given Mourinho’s long working history with Mendes, Tottenham are hoping to agree a lower fee for a player who is rated at around the £40million mark, added the report.

That said, a follow-up report in Record claimed that Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira thinks £40million is “insufficient”, so Spurs may have to loosen their purse strings for the 6ft 1in ace.

With Spurs likely to bolster their defensive ranks amid the prospect of Jan Vertonghen leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, plenty of defenders are being linked with the North London club.

Dias’ prospective signing yielded an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Spurs fans on social media, who would welcome the Portuguese at N17 with open arms:
