Report: Wolves interested in Benfica defender Ruben Dias

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in Benfica defender Ruben Dias.

According to the Express and Star, the West Midlands club have turned their attention to the 22-year-old and are keen on landing him this summer.

It is understood that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have joined the race for him and want to take him to Molineux.

The report explains that he’s currently got a £57million release clause with Portuguese giants Benfica, but Wolves will want to pay significantly less than that fee for him.

Dias’ agent is Jorge Mendes, who has incidentally helped Wolves wrap up a number of transfers in the last few years.

The centre-back is extremely highly-rated and helped Portugal win the Nations League this summer, where he played every minute of the semi-final and final.

TBR’s View:

Dias has come through the academy ranks at Portugal and looks destined to reach the top, as he’s one of the best young centre-backs around Europe right now.

He’s a composed defender with the ball at his feet and already an authoritative figure.

Wolves have an excellent group of players that helped them qualify for the Europa League last season for the new campaign, but they are short of numbers and need some defensive recruits.

Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett were the preferred back three, but Dias has so much talent he would surely be in the team every week.
