BBC Pundit says 24-year-old tried to spoil Liverpool performance against Manchester City

Garth Crooks has hit out at one Liverpool player for trying to spoil the side’s impressive performance against Manchester City on Saturday.

Crooks was speaking on BBC Sport, as he praised the Reds for their display at the Etihad Stadium in a game which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold equalise in some style after Erling Haaland’s first-half strike.

On another day, Liverpool could have actually taken all three points back with them. They certainly created the openings. However, many of their final passes were poor. And they did not test Ederson as often as they should have.

Garth Crooks hits out at Darwin Nunez after Liverpool draw

Darwin Nunez will certainly wish that he could have a couple of his opportunities again. The Uruguayan has been really bright so far this season. But he did not have his best day against the champions.

The 24-year-old tested Ederson with a header early on. But Nunez then messed up an opportunity after being played in by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Unfortunately, he was a lot quieter in the second-half before coming off. And there was an interesting moment at full-time when he seemed to lose his cool with Pep Guardiola.

Crooks included Trent Alexander-Arnold in his team of the week. But after sharing why the right-back impressed him, he hit out at his teammate.

“This was a good performance by Liverpool at Manchester City, although Darwin Nunez tried his best to spoil it,” he told BBC Sport.

“Nunez should really spend his time concentrating on why he’s not scoring more goals instead of picking fights and venting his frustrations with the opposition manager because he’s been substituted.”

Reds striker still learning despite his progress

Few Liverpool fans believe that Nunez is the finished article. Last season showed that he is still a work in progress. But that is also what is so exciting about the striker.

It is clear what he could be when it all clicks. There is no question that he has the quality to be a world-class forward.

He did not have the best day at the office on Saturday. But he has proved what he can do against City in the past. And you would not be surprised if he was the difference-maker the next time they meet.
