Stephen Warnock lauds Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette after 3-0 win

Stephen Warnock has told Sky Sports News (12/04; 11:32) that any notion of Arsenal selling Alexandre Lacazette should be quashed.

The French striker scored a quality brace as the Gunners defeated Sheffield United 3-0 on Sunday night.

Lacazette has taken his tally for the campaign to 15 and he’s really proved his worth to Mikel Arteta during 2020/21.

In the summer, the 29-year-old will enter the final year of his contract and several clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation.

Talks over an extension might be in the offing, according to The Sun, and Warnock has suggested an extension would be thoroughly deserved.

He told Sky Sports News (12/04; 11:32): “There’s been so much talk on Lacazette going and I just don’t get it.

“I honestly don’t get it, he’s got so much quality and I think he’s actually more important than (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang.

“He gives you a focal point and brings other players into play. He’s very unselfish when he does that and he’s got the ability to play on the shoulder as well.”

The striker has won over some of his fierce critics this season, not just with his goal haul but also with his overall play.

He has proved inconsistent at times during his time at the Emirates Stadium but this season that hasn’t been a problem.

When others have gone missing, he has stood firm and done his level best to hit the goal trail and that deserves a reward.

Lacazette has a part to play with Arsenal and the club would perhaps be wise to hand him an extension to his £180,000-a-week deal.
