BBC pundit says 24-year-old Liverpool ace wasn’t really in the game at Manchester City

Liverpool picked up a 1-1 draw away at Manchester City in Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late goal gave Jurgen Klopp’s Reds a share of the spoils at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has been much improved this season, but he had a day to forget against the Citizens.

The 24-year-old had his moments in the game, but for the most part he struggled.

For instance, he had an early header well saved by Ederson.

However, moments later he had the chance to go through on goal, but a poor first touch led him down.

Nunez hit the target with just one of his four efforts on goal and, even though he worked hard, things didn’t come off for him.

In the 41st minute, Mohamed Salah played a through-ball to the Uruguay international, but he was offside. It took a few moments for the flag to go up.

“I am shaking my head because of the time it took to give the offside,” Izzy Christiansen said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Nunez hasn’t really been in the game. He is a threat. His presence is a threat and it took him a while to get his touch.”

Jurgen Klopp replaced Nunez with Harvey Elliott late on and, after the game, he was involved in a dispute with City boss Pep Guardiola.

Nunez has definitely come a long way since joining Liverpool and enduring a difficult maiden season.

Some have deemed him an “agent of chaos”, but despite causing havoc in the opposition box and improving his goal contribution tally, he still needs to do more.

Admittedly, City away is the toughest fixture in the English calendar. Even Alisson Becker struggled, and he’s one of the most consistently world-class players at Liverpool.

However, everyone in the Reds camp will be pleased to take a point back to Anfield. And then, we go again.
