‘Good character’: Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool have a versatile 24-year-old who’s a ‘top player’ right now

Liverpool are flying this season as their new midfield and the firepower up front makes them a serious threat for silverware as the likes of Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez continue to shine.

Jurgen Klopp got his wish in the summer and the new players such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have already impressed.

Another win in the cup in midweek has put Liverpool just two wins from Wembley. And squad rotation is going to play a key role in if the Reds do indeed make that final.

One player who will play a key role both starting and off the bench is Cody Gakpo. And speaking about the 24-year-old in his presser today, Klopp admitted he is delighted with the Dutchman.

Jurgen Klopp praises Cody Gakpo’s good character at Liverpool

Speaking in his press conference ahead of this weekend’s game with Luton Town, Klopp said he was really happy with what Gakpo is showing him.

“Since Cody has been here, he has played many positions. He had to play in midfield but that was never the plan, we just had to do it. He is a versatile striker and arrives into the box well. He’s a top player and a good character,” Klopp said.

“All the boys like each other. It’s not a competition, they like to be together. If one doesn’t start they know they have a chance to come on and kill the game off.”

Gakpo could well get the nod this weekend at Luton. However, with the likes of Nunez, Salah and Jota all in good form, it’s anyone’s guess to who Klopp goes with.

Liverpool have serious attacking options

While Luis Diaz might be out at the moment thanks to awful circumstances back home, Liverpool still possess so much threat going forward.

Cody Gakpo has proven to be a fine signing by the Reds so far. That versatility Klopp touches on here is a good aspect of his game and it allows the Liverpool boss to change things around as and when.

The key for Liverpool and players like Gakpo is that they make an impact when they get a chance. If he can do that, then the Reds will easily push for trophies this term.

At £35m, Gakpo is already looking a bit of a bargain signing and long-term, he should prove be a superb piece of business for the club.
