Alan Shearer says he’s spotted a sign there’s a big issue in the dressing room at Manchester United

Alan Shearer says he’s spotted a sign that there’s a big issue in the dressing room at Manchester United at the moment.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, the Newcastle United legend reflected on a disappointing 1-0 defeat for Manchester United at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s men were well-beaten by Newcastle over the weekend as Anthony Gordon’s second-half effort handed Eddie Howe’s side a 1-0 win.

In truth, United were fortunate to lose by just one goal on the day as Newcastle completely dominated the game.

The disappointing performance comes just days after United blew a two-goal lead away to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

It’s fair to say that despite picking up three consecutive Premier League wins before Saturday’s defeat, United have been below-par this season.

And Alan Shearer thinks he’s spotted a sign there’s an issue in the dressing room at United.

Shearer believes the United players’ body language at St James’ Park shows there’s a problem in the dressing room at the moment.

“You don’t have to be a genius to work it out, clearly there is an issue in that dressing room,” he said. “You can see that. You know when the arms go up as if to say it’s not my fault.

“Or players try to send a reaction to their own fans to say it’s not my fault. As soon as that happens you know there is an issue in the dressing room, that happened too many times yesterday.”

Ten Hag will be bitterly disappointed with Saturday’s display as his side were completely outfought by a spirited Newcastle side.

Alan Brazil claimed just last month that he’s heard the Dutchman is on ‘thin ice’ at Old Trafford.

Of course, Ten Hag has since managed to pick up some positive results, including a 3-0 win over Everton. But United are struggling to find any consistent form and could crash out of the Champions League next week unless they beat Bayern Munich.

It’s difficult to see exactly what style of football Ten Hag is attempting to implement at the moment and after such a promising debut campaign, United have underwhelmed under his guidance this season.

He will surely have some credit in the bank after delivering a League Cup and third-placed finish last time out. Yet, the former Ajax man will have to find some consistency over the coming weeks to prove he’s the right man to lead United forward.
