‘He is special’: BBC pundit lauds Ederson during Manchester City tie

Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that Ederson is an amazing footballer as he lauded the Manchester City goalkeeper during their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

City have booked their ticket to the last four of the competition. Unsurprisingly, it proved to be a tough night against Diego Simeone’s men. Atleti were feisty throughout, and nasty at times.

But City were able to get themselves through. Of course, they had the advantage from the first-leg, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring the only goal with 20 minutes remaining.

The Premier League leaders stood up to the challenge against Atletico inside Wanda Metropolitano. And one member of the City squad received particular praise from Sutton during the first-half in the Spanish capital.

Ederson was lauded, with Sutton left stunned with just how good he continues to be when the ball is at his feet.

“Ederson is an amazing footballer. Think back years ago when the keepers were awful with their feet. Blimey, he is special,” he told BBC Sport.

Ederson definitely a game-changer during brilliant Manchester City spell

Ederson has long been considered one of the game-changing goalkeepers of the modern era. Certainly, he is easily one of the two best in the Premier League, along with Alisson.

But because of the quality City have in all areas, it is easy for Ederson to not quite get the full credit he deserves away from the Etihad Stadium.

He has now kept 117 clean sheets in 232 games for the club. It is an outrageous record. But he has also offered so much more when the ball is at his feet.

And after Wednesday night’s result, Ederson could end the season with an amazing treble with Pep Guardiola’s side.
