Peter Schmeichel has lauded Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola’s charges ran out 2-0 winners at Old Trafford as they dominated proceedings for most of the game.
City took the lead on seven minutes through an Eric Bailly own goal and Bernardo Silva then made it two on the stroke of half time.
Ederson made two important blocks against Cristiano Ronaldo in the first half and was solid throughout, even if, on the whole, he wasn’t given much of a test by the opposition.
Nonetheless, Schmeichel was impressed with Ederson’s reliability and calming presence he provides to the City back line.
“For a goalkeeper, it’s not really about just making great saves,” Schmeichel said on BBC Radio 5 Live (6 Nov, 13:53).
“We’re watching one of the best goalkeepers in the world playing for Man City now.
“The City defenders know that if they pass him the ball under pressure from the opposition he will very, very calmly pass it out.
“That speaks volumes. It’s not just about these great saves.”
City signed Ederson in June 2017 from Benfica for a reported £35million.
To date, the Brazil international has made 206 competitive appearances for the Citizens.
