Report: Manchester City’s Ederson set to sign three-year contract extension

Manchester City ace Ederson is reportedly set for a new three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

What’s the story?

According to The Athletic, the Citizens are in talks with the Brazil international over a new deal. And there is confidence the number one will put pen to paper.

The ace signed for City back in 2017 for £35m on a six-year contract from Liga NOS outfit Benfica. He signed a seven-year extension just a year after joining the club following his contribution to the title win.

Since his arrival in the Premier League, Ederson has been widely praised, with Pep Guardiola calling him ‘outstanding‘.

Ederson deserves new deal

Ederson deserves a contract extension with Manchester City.

It is never easy to find a world-class ‘keeper. So, when you have one, you need to hold on to them as tight as you can.

Just look at the situation with Arsenal.

The Gunners had Bernd Leno and Emiliano Martinez on their books. However, they made the wrong choice after deciding to sell the Argentine, who has since gone on to become one of the best in the Premier League.

Now the club are struggling to find a backup to the German, who himself could leave this summer.

If City have learned any lessons over the last year or so, it is that good goalkeepers are a dime a dozen. Extending Ederson’s deal is a smart move from the team.
