Pep Guardiola reveals Ederson will start the next two Manchester City games

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has confirmed that number one goalkeeper, Ederson, will return to the starting XI against Brighton.

Guardiola opted to give Scott Carson his chance last time out as City ground out a win at Newcastle United. Ferran Torres was the hero, scoring three times as City hit four at St James’.

Carson’s inclusion was a nod from Guardiola to the professionalism and work of the former England stopper. However, ahead of the games with Brighton and Everton this week, the City boss offered a short update on Ederson and Carson.

“Ederson will play the next two games,” Guardiola confirmed to City’s official site.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is already top of the pile this season in terms of Premier League clean-sheets, with 18. Playing the final two games will given Ederson the chance to hit the magic 20 mark.

Carson, meanwhile, will be happy to go back to his role with the club and will have been delighted to have got the chance against Newcastle.

TBR View: Ederson the Premier League’s best, and he needs to keep sharp

Guardiola has some big decisions to make in the next few games. The Champions League final is on the horizon, but Pep won’t want his players to lose their match sharpness either.

Ederson is one of those players who needs to stay match sharp. Not to mention the fact he is brilliant and will want that 20th clean-sheet.

Sentiment is all well and good at times in football, but City need to go into the final in a winning mood. Playing Ederson, then, is a no-brainer.
