Liverpool stopper Alisson reveals which players have help him ascend to the top

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s rise to the very top was confirmed on Monday, as he scooped the Yashin Trophy at the 2019 Ballon d’Or awards.

The Brazilian has been recognised as the best goalkeeper in the world, and it is arguably no less than he deserves after a stunning first season at Anfield.

Alisson was key in helping the Reds win a sixth European title, and also helped himself to the 2018/19 Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets in the Premier League.

He has totally transformed Liverpool’s defence along with Virgil van Dijk, and the South American has made sure to acknowledge those who have helped him ascend to the very top.

He told France Football, (quotes translated by Daily Mail): “When we play with, and against the best, we can only progress. And Messi helped me a lot! Against him, I experienced some of my best footballing memories.

“We [Ederson] have always been in competition to be the best. But the luck I’ve had with Ederson is to have him as a big brother. I never considered him a rival but as a support. Sometimes I do not have words to say what he means to me.”

TBR’s view – Ederson influence can keep Alisson at the top

City’s £65,000-a-week stopper (Spotrac) is very close to Alisson in terms of ability, and that fact is what will likely keep Alisson on his toes week in week out.
