Report: Mourinho joins Leeds and Arsenal in race to sign Brazilian, January loan is likely

CalcioMercato report that Jose Mourinho is looking to offer Juventus midfielder Arthur an escape route at Roma, in January. But Mourinho might come up against Premier League clubs, in Leeds, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Arthur, 25, has been ostracised by new Juventus manager of late. The 21-time Brazil international has only started one game in Serie A, his last league appearance coming back in October at Juventus.

A previous report from CalcioMercato state that Max Allegri is keen to wave goodbye to Arthur, and could let him go for a fee of £29.5million. But the new report states that a loan move is much more likely.

Indeed, Roma could offer Arthur a chance to leave Juventus on loan in January – joining Leeds, Arsenal and Newcastle in the chase to get the holding midfielder. He has a contract until June 2025.

Mourinho eyes Arthur: Roma, Leeds, Arsenal or Newcastle for Juve ace?

Leeds certainly need a midfielder, but his ball-playing, slow-tempo style might not really suit Leeds. He is a not a Bielsa-style player, but a loan deal may tempt Victor Orta into a January move.

Arsenal have options, but Mo Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles could end up leaving in January. Newcastle also need a midfielder, and with Eddie Howe looking to dominate possession, he could be ideal.

But a relegation scrap? It is unlikely that Arthur would be interested. A move to Roma would be ideal, allowing Arthur to remain in European football – and in Italy. A no-brainer.
