‘It is unbelievable’… Jorginho amazed by the work-rate of 22-year-old Arsenal teammate

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has now been discussing the team’s need to be more ruthless in their mentality when securing their wins in the future.

Jorginho was speaking to The Standard in an interview and mentioned that Arsenal will need to tighten things up to sustain a title challenge.

And as part of that advice, the midfielder did highlight a glowing example of the kind of mentality and work rate needed.

Jorginho name-checked Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli as an excellent example, a player who proved his strong mentality against Wolverhamtpon Wanderers.

Praising his teammate, Jorginho said: “Seeing Martinelli going back to defend and then he sprints 100 metres and hits the post on other side, it is unbelievable.

“That’s the mentality that we need to have and that is the mentality that we have.”

Of course, Arsenal did eventually hold on to their three points against Wolves, but it was an important test and lesson.

Although never really stretched towards the end, Arsenal did fail to kill-off the game.

And Mikel Arteta was certainly aware of the risks that were emerging, a manager becoming increasingly animated on the touchline.

Moreover, that frustration did boil over when Arteta appeared to be furious at one of his Arsenal players.

Of course, Jorginho’s words are now a timely reminder heading into a crucial festive period.

Mikel Arteta’s side now have four games within the next two weeks including two tricky away trips to Luton Town and Aston Villa this week.

Although freshly promoted, Kenilworth Road has proved no easy place to take three points – just ask Liverpool.

Moreover, no one will need reminding just how daunting the prospect of facing Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side has become.

Arsenal have developed a certain robustness to the spine of their side of late – something that will now be needed more than ever.

And it’s now clear why Arteta was so keen to see his side qualify for the Champions League knockout stages so early on.

A tie with PSV Eindhoven next Tuesday can now used to rotate his squad, a trip that would otherwise be dominating the agenda.
