‘Really need to look out’: Journalist says he’s been tipped off about signing Tottenham could make in January

Tottenham could press ahead with plans to bring in a new forward after Richarlison’s injury at the World Cup.

Spurs had injuries in forward areas before the World Cup, with Ivan Perisic moving up into that area of the pitch at times.

Now, Richarlison has come back from the World Cup injured, while Son Heung-min is still carrying the facial injury he played through in Qatar.

Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that could well all add up to mean that Spurs bring in a new forward player in the January transfer window.

Tottenham could sign new forward in January

Jones said of Richarlison’s injury and Tottenham’s January transfer window strategy: “It might accelerate that need for one more attack-minded player.

“That’s what I’m told we really need to look out for now.”

There is not one outstanding candidate so far you would say Spurs are nailed on to make a big play for when the winter window opens.

Rafael Leao, Lautaro Martinez and James Maddison have been tentatively linked but would all cost a huge amount to sign mid-season.

It is hard to get backups of the right quality and at an affordable price, which is underlined by the £60 million signing of Richarlison in the summer when he is by no means guaranteed a spot in the Spurs starting XI.

Antonio Conte’s future is likely to be interlinked with how well he is going to be backed in the transfer windows ahead, so if he demands a new forward, it will be interesting to see if he gets one – and who it is.
