Report: Newcastle now in pole position for ‘champion’ Andrea Pirlo has deemed a ‘complete player’

Newcastle United are one of two Premier League teams reportedly ‘in pole’ position to sign Adrien Rabiot this summer.

This is according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness.

Newcastle have been perennially linked with the Juventus and France midfielder since their takeover last year.

Though the Magpies didn’t land Rabiot in the January transfer window, they’re much better placed to do so now.

With Newcastle surviving in the Premier League, they can continue building a team of the highest calibre.

Meanwhile, Rabiot’s Juve future appears relatively uncertain despite being a regular starter last season.

According to Corriere, the Bianconeri need to sell if they want to rebuild Max Allegri’s squad.

Juve reportedly want another midfielder, but for that to happen, they need to sell someone first.

Rabiot and Arthur Melo are apparently on the list of possible sales this summer.

Corriere claims the Frenchman has ‘headlights’ from the Premier League on him.

They are specifically coming from Newcastle and Chelsea, who are ‘in pole’ to secure his signature at present.

Rabiot could potentially go for as little as €15m (£12.8m) as his contract expires next summer.

However, his mother and agent Veronique is reportedly looking around Europe to see what other options there are.

Veronique apparently ‘hasn’t excluded peace with PSG’.

Sport Witness claimed there’s no indication Rabiot’s former club are considering re-signing him at this moment in time.

“He is a champion”

If Newcastle get their hands on Rabiot, they’d be signing a player who one of the greatest midfielders of all time has lauded.

“He is a complete player, I have rarely seen someone so strong both physically and technically,” Andrea Pirlo told Sky Sports – via Goal.com – about Rabiot in 2020.

“He doesn’t even know the potential for improvement he can have, and we work on the mental side of things to make him understand that he is a champion. He’s improving game after game.”
